USG Poised to Rise From a Strong Foundation

Earnings seem ready to jump...

Quote
Since 2007, USG has idled or closed about one-third its manufacturing capacity, shut 125 distribution branches, and cut its workforce from 14,650 to 8,900.

By reducing so many costs, USG was able to generate the same earnings in its most recent quarter on $948 million in sales as it did in 2007's second quarter, when sales were $1.4 billion.

Quote
HOUSING STARTS ROSE 18%, to 924,900 in 2013, and reached an annualized rate of 1.09 million in July, their best showing in seven months. But they remain below the about 1.5 million that has been the yearly average since 1959, and is the rate at which analysts say construction keeps up with population growth.

The secret to USG is what they were doing when the housing downstart began.  The stock tanked while the company was repositioning itself. Reading about the movies they were making when the stock was trading under $10 made it an easy investment at the time.

Not sure if it is a good investment at $30.  But it is worth revisiting.  Does Berkshire still have all that convertible debt?  That needs to be taken into account because I would call it massive dilution risk.

Does anyone follow this one? I rarely average UP, but I added a lot to my position below 26 on the recent dip. Forgot to really mention it at the time, but this seems like a great company and I've owned it for years. Truly hoping that Berkshire just buys it, but I said that five years ago too. I noticed they were diluting a bunch but that still hasn't stopped me from the recent purchases.

Berkshire converted the debt I believe, and probably would take USG over if it didn't have so many NOLs. once the NOLs are gone, then takeover time? But, in 5-6 years, WEB probably won't be kickin', so who knows..

Find an interesting chart enclosed.

Anyone of you has an opinion on the value/price of USG ?

I am planning to sell my position till end of 2017, cause I like take the positive effects from the hurricanes for an exit.

What pricelevel do you think is a good sell ?
