A Return to Civility!
« on: July 01, 2019, 10:44:03 PM »
I've noticed the last couple of weeks that the tone in the Politics board has become more civil.  Congratulations!

Please keep this up and ensure this is the standard and norm...let's not devolve into how it was in the past.  Cheers!

I'm not so sure. Discussions get heated, but by and large I think they fine. That said I think this needs to be called out:

Currently there is a topic called "Koomala Plays the Race Card... You don't say!". I don't think that's an accidental misspelling. In the past the same user wrote: "Current frontrunner, Koobalo Harris, who f*cked her way into being a career politician..." (http://www.cornerofberkshireandfairfax.ca/forum/politics/russia-investigation/msg359578/#msg359578) If you do a quick search for "Koobalo" you'll quickly see that it's a slur.

I'm not sure what it takes to get banned from this site, and I'm not suggesting that this user be immediately banned, but this sort of behavior is leaning in that direction IMHO.

LOL OK. A quick search reveals.... three separate Google suggestions for "did you mean: kabalo meaning, khoob bhalo meaning, kabob meaning".... Stop being a clown and trying to make this a race thing. Thats the subject matter of the thread you referenced but obviously didn't read.

I debated using Camel-A. As that seems to be how CNN pronounces it, but thought that some would inexplicable try to turn it into a middle eastern slur. Looks like nothing is safe...

This is the last I will post on this topic -

When you use language that can be roughly translated to "sand n*gger whore", it becomes a race issue. My wife is middle eastern, and my two daughters are half middle eastern. If someone called them "Koobalo" in front of me, they'd need to see a dentist to get denture fittings. I'm not dumb. This is what you meant. I called it out the first time, and I'm calling it out  for a second time.

This is the left folks... You can "roughly translate" something into anything in order to fit your agenda.

As I said once before in a thread, her name has been pronounced a variety of ways, all over the place... my choice to mock her using a variety of those obvious mispronunciations is nothing more. I guess only Trump is fair game. Everyone else off limits, huh?

But hey, keep fabricating issues and connecting imaginary dots to suite your urges to bring race into everything. You know, so you can keep "calling it out"...

Cheers

I am all for pushing back on PC culture but not for stuff like this.  Why not just fix the misspelling Greg?  I want the right to have debate and to argue sides that others might fight offensive, name calling is where it gets contentious and I don't want to waste my credits on that.  This is the kind of stuff that just feeds  the left.  Let's save it for real issues.

Given that he is responding in a separate thread, I think investor-man is just informing you that he is offended.   I don't see this being a political thing at all.

It wasn't even a recent thread. He fabricated a slur and pointed to a thread from quite some time ago to try to string together his issue; and even admitted it wasnt accurate by hedging himself with "rough translation". The mods can change whatever they want, I am fine with that. Kneeling to every bogus or deliberately misconstrued item in order to create a racial issue to me is a big part of the problem.

If her name was Sandy Harris and I said Koobalo or whatever his manufactured slur was, OK... I can see that. Her name is Kamala, and has been pronounced probably two dozen different ways, including Koomala, Camel-A, etc by MSM outlets. Has nothing to do with middle eastern people.

I've literally wasted 10 minutes today trying to find this "rough translation" on Google, to no avail.

Investor-man is offended so Greg should fix the misspelling? But offended as he is, Investor-man has no problem telling us how quickly he would resort to violence with his " they'd need to see a dentist to get denture fittings" remark. Well, that remark offends me.

How quick we are nowadays to resort to violence, threats, intimidation. And that gets to the heart of what is wrong with politics today. There is no debate, no reasoned discussion, no room for compromise. Instead there is a lot of screaming, threats of violence, and sometimes actual violence.
When did it become okay for waitresses to spit on the food of customers when they disagree with their political viewpoint? Or to beat elderly people in the street? I like to think posters on this board are intelligent, well educated individuals. If we can't engage in reasoned debate what hope does the rest of the country have?

When I meant a return to civility, I meant that people weren't calling each other names anymore...please continue to refrain from doing so.

Mis-spelling of a candidate's name is simply to engage people in the wrong way, and serves no purpose other than to antagonize...that being said, it wasn't what I was referring to in terms of things calming down.  Cheers!
