"For starters, how about pissing off nearly all of the US allies? The guy has ripped up treaties, insulted leaders and has lied so many times no other country trusts anything he says. Not to mention that he would like to dump NATO and cosey up to the Russians. Do you think that is in the best long term interests of the country?"

Do you manage people at work? Do you have friends? A significant other? (see how politically correct I am)

If you do, when these people continually lie to you, dishonour their commitments, what do you do? Let them continue without saying a word?

If Obama had brought the same issues, he would be considered a genius. However, nothing would have likely come out of it because he wasn't taken seriously. He was too soft. He called the use of chemical weapons in Syria a red line and did nothing about it. He was the perfect guy to keep abusing of.

Now someone came along and using a very different tone brought to the forefront these issues.

Surprise, surprise! NATO is still alive and actually getting stronger since the allies are now upping their spending or trying to meet their previously agreed commitment.

The same guy also saw Putin developing all kinds of weapons which do not meet the intermediate range Treaty and said: You want to keep making that shit? Then we will too. I am sure that Putin is thrilled at the idea of new weapons being deployed on the European continent squarely aimed at them.

He also cranked up sanctions on Russia. So maybe that you want to keep discussing some fantasy but, reality is far different than your thesis about getting cosey with Russia.

“Crime heading down” - Not hard to reduce the crime rate when you have one of the highest crime rates in the civilized world.

Should I really respond to that? Less crime is positive isn't?

“No wars”  How’s that Korean thing shaping up?

Since you strongly believe in diplomacy and politically correct stuff, then why is it that this terrible and abrassive man has been able to re-establish some sort of dialogue with this rogue nation?

According to your statement, it would have been better off to never have had these discussions and keep starving these people to death while the leaders keep developing nuclear weapons and delivery systems that your favorites (Obama, Hillary) did not care to tell us about?

You know, it’s really difficult to have a discussion when someone keeps trying to words in your mouth and makes unfounded assumptions about your views.

You actually said this???????????

You know there are rumors around that Mr Trump may have stretched the truth on an occasion or two. Yet your support seems to be unwavering.

How is it that Trump is "cozying up to Russia"?

Trump is Putin's worst nightmare.

While Obama refused to assist the Ukraine - Trump turned around and armed the Ukrainians with the latest
anti-tank missiles and other heavy weapons which infuriated Putin.

In Syria, when the world laughed at Obama and his "Red Line" that Putin and Assad walked all over -
Trump turned around and destroyed Russian forces as soon as they crossed his "Red Line" and
threatened US Forces in Eastern Syria.

And NATO - Trump threatens to not support NATO unless the NATO members keep their promise to
fund THEIR OWN DEFENSE.  No more free rider for Europe on the dole of the United States.
Guess what ? It worked - NATO has never been stronger with the increased contributions of those NATO members.

Funny how anyone who disagrees with the Trump supporters on this board are labeled “Libtards”, “Lefties”, “Left wing nut jobs”, etc, etc.  Rather childish when you  have to rely on slurs to support a position.

I would suggest that there are a LOT on this board, perhaps even the majority, who lean to the right but we do not support Trump and many of his ideas. As one who falls into that category, I can assure you that one can be conservative and not support Mr. Trump.

The irony is that Trump is neither right or left. He is simply on whatever side happens to be to his personal benefit - either politically or financially.

He has simply given a frustrated minority on far right a figurehead they delude themselves into believing that he has the country’s best interests at heart.

If that was the case he would not be POTUS.   He was supported and elected by a large number of voters.  He is enabled NOW by almost all GOP members in government.

Having said that, it is absolutely fantastic he was elected, seriously. We always say that things have to get far worse before they get better, right?  Well, this seems to be the inflection point.

Due to Trump's election, finally, there might be a focus on the reduction of system corruption/crony capitalism and the realization that authoritarian regimes interfere in and corrupt our free world.  Any interference by Russia in the election is nothing compared to what's going on.  Countless of organizations work in the US to influence the public and those in power; autocrats publish ads in the NYT; countless cyber attacks on the military and so on.  A couple of years ago there was only the occasional news article about this, but now thanks to Trump it has become a daily event.   Just look at the past week, it's fantastic.
