Title: Exclusive Interview with Tom Russo
Post by: jacobwolinsky on October 24, 2011, 11:17:53 AM
Thought you guys would be interested. I conducted an interview with Tom Russo (about 14 pages of text), and just posted it. He was one of the first global value investors (great 25+ yr track record)-http://www.valuewalk.com/interviews/exclusive-interview-famous-investor-tom-russo/ http://www.valuewalk.com/interviews/exclusive-interview-famous-investor-tom-russo/ (http://www.valuewalk.com/interviews/exclusive-interview-famous-investor-tom-russo/)

Thanks Jacob!

Gurufocus has an interview coming up with him soon and people can ask questions here:

A lot less questions so far than Prem got last month so shoot away, big chance you're question gets an answer.  :)

Thanks! It was mostly a monologue that he told me to put into an interview format. I had a lot more questions I wanted to ask him.

Btw- he is a super nice guy.

Thanks Jacob.

There was also a wealthtrack interview with Tom Russo a few weeks ago. Fascinating to see different investing styles. Holding Nestle since 1987 through all twists and turns - that takes patience !

Great stuff.

I particularly enjoyed the "capacity to suffer" concept. A very valuable trait to find and important one shared by some of the great investors. Very important in the insurance business as well!

Is his fund still open?

No idea, considering he manages $6billion (and has a fantastic track record) he is pretty unknown even in the value circles.

He manages money with Gardner, Russo & Gardner.  They manage both separate accounts and some pooled money.  The firm is based in Lancaster, PA.

Gardner, Russo & Gardner's Q4 13-F is out and they are reporting over 100 new positions(!).  Now these are all tiny, so perhaps they are essentially tracking positions, but it certainly seems to be a list of companies that might be worth searching through:

They appear to have added nearly ~$800M worth of Anheuser-Busch InBev.

Nah. The rocket financial report is incorrect. They only added about 90,000 shares... roughly $9 million.

Quite weird to observe indeed. - Especially if one look at those particular trackers. Incoming capital/accounts to be reallocated?

I think Tom runs a bunch of individual accounts as well, so some of those positions may be inherited.

Thanks - look forward to this - never seen a letter by him, just read the interviews, and was immediately taken by the whole 'capacity to suffer' etc.

Can't remember if you know Lindsell Train, a sensational outfit who are a relative comparator in the UK.  They have a bunch of very good think-pieces on their website that I think you'd enjoy if you haven't already.
