The problem I have with not painting most of these folks with the same brush is this...It doesnt take a whole lot to be a reporter. You dont need to be hugely intelligent to tell somebody what happened. The Yankees played the Blue Jays yesterday. The Yankees won. Government failed to pass the new stimulus. Trump is running for President against Biden. You dont get this very much. I dont even really look at news anymore. Bloomberg and WSJ are bearable. I like the Post because its second to none with respect to NY-area sports reporting, and I am a sports guy. I can discern otherwise what is a news event and what is a hit job or click piece. When you look at the plethora of add nothing, makeup wearing, self entitled, ladder climber mouthpieces offering their own spin...it is sickening because they all use the same formulas and have the same objectives. They are disloyal. They leak things that are confidential or harmful to people. They spin things to manipulate you, the audience. They basically create stories out of thin air and that is not "reporting". So to hell with all of them. They dont care about anyone despite often pretending to. They just want to go viral and get clicks so eventually they can have their own show and staff to sexually harass.

Good journalists do research. I think that is where the talent lies. To Greg’s point anyone can “report”.
Hell, now there are AI bots to write articles (I’m sure you’ve all seen the yahoo finance “articles” obviously written by bots)

There is a famous investment fund that for a while would only hire journalists into their equity research positions.
"Lethargy bordering on sloth remains the cornerstone of our investment style."

Yes, good journalism isn't easy. You have to have the willingness to dig deeply, sift through information, form relationships, and package all of that into a readable content. For example, most reasonable well educated people cannot read through a 100 page court opinion, or an SEC filing and understand wtf is going on. A good journalist translates this information for the reader into plain English.

As far as leaking things that are confidental, there's always that tradeoff between doing harm by revealing or by keeping information from the public. The public has a should have right to know without it threatening national security, but how far do you go, well that's for the experts to decide. A good example of this is the NSA spying scandal during the Bush Administration, that was first reported by the NYT. It got so serious that Bush himself met with NYT in the Oval Office to try and stop the story from getting out. Glad it got out, and also glad he didn't label it as fake news.

Anyone who is a writer for any publication is going to be biased.  Some publications like Breitbart or The Young Turks are blatatantly political,

Talk about being biased and blatantly political - you call the President a NAZI, White Supremacist, who's ready to set up concentration camps.
What a frickin' joke!

Yet you ignore the fact that his cabinet is populated by several Jews, women and blacks.

You trash Breitbart in the same regard - yet ignore the fact that the founder, Andrew Breitbart, was a Jew from Los Angeles and his main star,
Ben Shapiro is an Orthodox Jew hated by the Far LEFT and the Far Right alike!

IF I did not know any better, I'd think you were the racist and bigot!

Over and over again we've seen vibrant examples of that. The liberals shout the labels. Racist, fascist, bigot, abcdefg-aphobe, etc. But continuously, in action, they continue to be the party of such. They continue to be totally intolerant and favor hatred, oppression, and violence. I mean nothing is more telling than their dedication to vehemently opposing school choice. This has no other supportable basis other than being a blatant method used to indoctrinate and brainwash people. And it was supported/used by none other than Adolf Hitler as well. This is for the kids. For the adults, they use the MSM. Even the liberals acknowledge there is basically just Fox News and a couple fringe sites that cater to conservatives. And nonstop, all the liberals do is try to discredit Fox. Meanwhile we have no shortage of liberal propaganda networks on the left..even ones that masquerade as "quality" and basically just rely on legacy/reputation of what they used to be. But it's garbage. CNN, currently littered with opinion pieces that are apparently now referred to as "analysis". NYT same thing. Wapo same. What is the pro Trump to anti Trump ratio? NYT homepage is half opinion pieces. 80% of which bash Trump, including even "Trump’s Middle East Deal Is Good. But Not That Good." Its to the point where its anti American what these outlets are about and doing.
