Title: Political Humor!
Post by: LC on September 10, 2019, 06:24:41 PM
We have so many contentious threads here in the politics section, perhaps some humor could lighten the mood? I'll kick it off.

Meet Trump's new national security advisor:

I guess the one finger salute wasn't welcoming enough?  ;D

Donald Trump and Barack Obama end up in the same barbershop As they sat there, each being worked on by a different barber, not a word was spoken. The barbers were even afraid to start a conversation, for fear that it would turn into politics. As the barbers finished their shaves, the one who had Trump in his chair reached for the aftershave. Trump was quick to stop him saying "No way buddy, my wife will smell that and think I've been in a damn whorehouse." The second barber turned to Obama and said "How about you?" Obama replied, "Go ahead, my wife doesn't know what the inside of a whorehouse smells like.

"I don't know what to do," says the Devil. "You're on my list but I have no room for you. But you definitely have to stay here, so I'll tell you what I'm going to do. I've got three people here who weren't quite as bad as you. I'll let one of them go, but you have to take their place. I'll even let YOU decide who leaves." Trump thought that sounded pretty good so he agreed.

The devil opened the first room. In it was Richard Nixon and a large pool of water. He kept diving in and surfacing empty handed over and over and over, such was his fate in Hell. "No!" Trump said. "I don't think so. I'm not a good swimmer and I don't think I could do that all day long."

The Devil led him to the next room. In it was Tony Blair with a sledgehammer and a room full of rocks. All he did was swing that hammer, time after time after time. "No! I've got this problem with my shoulder. I would be in constant agony if all I could do was break rocks all day!" commented Trump.

The Devil opened a third door. In it, Trump saw Bill Clinton lying naked on the floor with his arms staked over his head and his legs staked in spread-eagle pose. Bent over him was Monica Lewinsky, doing what she does best.

Trump looked at this in disbelief for a while and finally said, "Yeah, I can handle this."

The Devil smiled and said, "Monica, you're free to go".......

Someone posted this to FB and I couldn't stop laughing.  It was the picture attached to this message (look at that first) and then the text:

I never understood wind.
You know, I know
windmills very much.
I have studied it
better than anybody
else. It’s very expensive.
They are made in China
and Germany mostly.
—Very few made here, almost none,
but they are manufactured, tremendous
—if you are into this—
tremendous fumes. Gases are
spewing into the atmosphere. You know
we have a world
right?

So the world
is tiny
compared to the universe.
So tremendous, tremendous
amount of fumes and everything.
You talk about
the carbon footprint
— fumes are spewing into the air.
Right? Spewing.
Whether it’s in China,
Germany, it’s going into the air.
It’s our air
their air
everything — right?

A windmill will kill many bald eagles.
After a certain number
they make you turn the windmill off.
That is true.
—By the way
they make you turn it off.
And yet, if you killed one
they put you in jail.
That is OK.

You want to see a bird graveyard?
You just go.
Take a look.
A bird graveyard.
Go under a windmill someday,
you’ll see
more birds
than you’ve ever seen
in your life.

How do Mexicans feel about Trump's wall?

They'll get over it. Although the wall is so tall that no Juan can climb it.

What would happen if Donald Trump was about to be assassinated?

I saw one of Trump’s guys yesterday on a news program attempting to explain why there hasn’t been 4 quarters (or any at all) of 4% economic growth under Trump (as there was under Obama), or why job creation has slowed since Obama left office.   His answer was “Keynesian economics” and then he launched into a monologue that talked over her and kept her from asking any more questions.

"I said, 'Jill, if there's ever a problem, just walk out on the balcony here, walk out and put that double-barrel shotgun and fire two blasts outside the house.' You don't need an AR-15—it's harder to aim, it's harder to use, and in fact you don't need 30 rounds to protect yourself. Buy a shotgun! Buy a shotgun!"

2.) We won't hit an iceberg.
3.) I knew it was an iceberg before anyone knew.
4.) No one knows icebergs better than I do.

6.) No one could have predicted the iceberg.
7.) We cannot allow an iceberg to stop our ship. Engines running fine!
8.) The crew spreads fake news about the iceberg.
9.) Some of you have to drown.
10. We did get our ship hull breached by an iceberg, but the restaurant and bar are open

This excuse is later than those my teenage son comes up explaining why he didn’t do his homework. It’s funny that he can’t let go. He should have said that his bodyguards recommended going to the bunker when there was some ruckus a few hundred yards from the White House.

That wouldn’t sound great, but considering the stuff he spouts out every day, it’s probably wouldn’t have made any headlines.

I think Trump should just play himself. He is a reality TV star after all. This will obviously give the movie a bit of an “The Office” Touch of feeling like a mocumentary, but it would befit his legacy.

Yea but then that's low rent Reality Tv stuff. This will be big budget studio stuff. They'll want a big name. They'll probably want some golden statues for it. So they'll probably go with Daniel Day Lewis as Trump. He'll gain 80 lbs for the role and test 100 orange dyes to find the right tone.

Good points, but Jude Law will likely be typecast in to the role due the his amazing job pitching Forsythia in Contagion. It's a no risk decision for casting.

Mechanics, Contractors, Plumbers: I have to buy thousands of dollars of tools on my own dime to to barely make 40k a year and then replace those tools when they wear out. I don't get paid vacation, have no pension, and likely don't have a 401k.

According to zip recruiter the average by state varies from 40-50k.

Soooo my comparing a profession where they are required to purchase supplies to perform a job to another profession where they choose to spend on average $450 a year is more of a strawman than comparing a teacher to police?

I dont get it, do police have to pay for their own stuff or something?

Teachers are massively overrated, and like fast food jobs are really intended for high schoolers, teaching jobs are "best suited" for middle aged women who are venturing out of the stay at home phase. If you are looking to max out your earnings, as a younger person, teaching is the last place you should go. Conversely, if you're towards the middle/end of your "career" and looking for a comfy exit job, teaching is perfect. And if you're doing it for other reasons, well, then you accept what you're getting into.

Im sure this is a politically incorrect assessment, but the history of gender roles and typical 1950s "relationship" largely played a role in establishing the current existence of the many aspects of the profession that people today complain about.

Yeah, well according to BLS they're at 60K median. BLS being BLS also doesn't take into account all the cash jobs all these guys are doing.

This I know a bit about, having lived in a neighborhood chock full of plumbers and contractors. I was basically the only guy there using plastic. Everyone else was paying with 50s and 100s. You can't use a hundred dollar bill anywhere in the city, but in my neighborhood even the asian market takes hundreds. So give us a break with the poor 40k plumber. You're a smart guy, at least find a better strawman. But it's a humor thread, so points for being funny!

Are you honestly saying that the majority of average Joes working in the trade fields are upper class. They just choose to drive old kinky vehicles, rusted out work trucks, live in small 1000sqft ranch houses and go to the local township fire department carnival for vacation?

We both know that’s simply not true. The owners of said companies? Sure, but they generally aren’t afraid to show off all their toys.

I mean everyone has an anecdote. Where I grew up teachers were one of the highest paid in the country. They averaged around 80k and earned 3x the average income for the city. Yet, like all the others they complained about choosing to spend a few bucks on students. Here is an idea, kick out the union, freeze the pension and give them a 401k. Pretty much every tax hike there was needed up going to sure up the pension fund instead of putting the funds back into the schools.

All I can say to that is that you must live in a very depressed area.

Trades/small contractors around here are - for the most part - drive recent crew cabs and I can't remember the last time I saw a rusted out work truck. And as far as vacations are concerned the majority of them spend a few weeks every winter in Mexico,  Cuba or the DDR.

I have a kid that's a red seal roofer out West and, feeling sorry for him, I helped him out a bit with his visa. Then I found out that he filed taxes on something like $120k last year. Sheeesh.

Fastest growing county in PA with a shortage of housing is t exactly depressed. If I had to guess, I would say most blue collar workers around here make between 50-80k. I think we’re talking past each other a bit. But it definitely depends on the area.

For example, here in PA when the natural gas boom started back in 2009 it became widely circulated that if you were a welder you could make 100-150k (maybe more) a year. Well the gas boom is pretty much over and this “idea” still remains even though that ship has sailed and wages have come down a lot. I have a few friends who upon graduating HS got jobs as welders. Yeah, they made a shit ton of money for the gas companies for a few years. But they also worked close 80-100 hours a week and were always on call, plus shift work.

Being a teacher making 60k a year 7-2:30 plus a few more hours to grade papers, and summers off is a big difference from the average tradesman who probably works upwards of 60-70 hours a week maybe more making the same “salary” without summers off.

Anyways, I’ll stop detailing the humor thread.

Sure, you'll stop cause you're full of it. Suddenly the tradesman goes from 40-to-60-to-80. The teacher goes from 80-to-60 or whatever.

If you grew up in the place that the teacher made 80K a year and that was 3x the city average income. Then you grew up in the place with the bast paid teachers in America and at the same time one of the poorest places in America. Normally I'd say you're lying. But I don't think you are. I think you're so wrong that you believe what you say is true.

Average income in the town I grew up 30k. Average Teacher salary 75k...So forgive me...not quite 3x....Also I'm talking about School district. Not State level average which is about 13k lower.

And how am I full of shit? the figures were from zip recruiter and then you posted one from BLS saying 60k...

I don't live where I grew up. But I do live in the same state.

But yeah, your stories sound so believable...not full of anecdotes at all....Please tell me when and how the "working class" became one of the richest classes in America (according to your claims)? Better yet, please tell me why the Democrats run on a platform of better wages for "the working class" when apparently they're all rich, running around with stacks of cash in their pockets...

(Paying $9,000 at a time to avoid money laundering reporting laws.)

Never knew why people thought this works. Do they really think that IRS/Treasury employees didn't think of it (they did, they even put it on the forms/website) and didn't ask banks to monitor transactions on 12 month rolling period?  8) Doing this gets you into a higher risk category for an exam (audit) and gives the examiner a lot of latitude to ask very broad questions.
