Safe Neighborhoods In US
« on: July 29, 2020, 09:50:39 AM »
I don't want this to get political, but policies on crime has a huuge effect on property prices.  So one of the worst fears of a NYC landlord is starting to play out like a slow motion train wreck.  The amount of shooting, crimes, protest, and now they are cutting the budget to get rid of graffiti.  Honestly, I could care less if you are gay, straight, trans, liberal, conservative, black, white, woke or not.  I am starting to think about re-allocating capital elsewhere.   If you study the history of NYC, it was disastrous for the city when the white middle class left.

Anyone has any suggestions as to what are some attractive cities, areas in the US that are safe with local governments who enforces law and order?  I'm not trolling, I have to genuinely think this through.  Obviously Chicago, Seattle, and Portland are no goes.

What about right outside of cities? Travis county?

Seems like Southern or Sunbelt cities (or right outside big cities )would be best or Utah. Growing population/income and tougher on quality of life issues.

Safest states in the US are Maine, Vermont, and New Hampshire.  Manchester NH is the largest city from those states and a great place to live.  Also 60 miles from Boston if you need to go into a larger city for something.

As ThePupil may say, I want all the niceties of big cities, lots of restaurants, amenities etc.  As a man of color, I think not having to deal with racism is helpful.  I can usually stare down confrontations before they start.  But you can't help stupid sometimes.

How has DC fared so far?

I was in Rome a couple of years ago.  Obviously, people go for the history and the heritage.  The area we were staying at had graffiti all over.  It was not pleasant. I think they do a better job at the more touristy locations keeping things nice and clean.

DC itself has always had terrible racial unrest.

If I wasn't partial to where I grew up, I'd say that region is the best area in the country. Absolutely gorgeous.

On the topic of areas/demographics....its pretty clear what statistics and factors one can attribute to the desirability. If you like NYC and want "safe and convenient"... it doesnt get much better than Mahwah, NJ. Low property taxes(for the area), great access to schools, 30 minute drive, train straight to Hoboken. Ranked THE SAFEST town in NJ.

What's the old saying? Invert, always invert?

Well, then avoid Harrison, Arkansas:
